Versatile Staples

September 24, 2015

There is something to be said about good staples in clothing. Every guy needs them. They are the building blocks of a well put together man. Here we wanted to highlight a great pair of jeans and a great oxford. Both are a must have and can be worn so many ways. Below you will find five looks all with the same oxford and same pair of jeans.
*Keep it casual*
Throw on your favorite jeans, white tee and oxford. Pair it all with a classic ball cap and white sneakers. Wear it to the park with your kids or to a lunch with friends...EASY!
- Hat, North Ebbets Ball Cap
- Sunglasses, Garrett Leight Angelus
- Tee, North Shop Pocket Tee
- Oxford, Taylor Stitch Everyday Oxford
- Jeans, Imogene+Willie Barton
- Watch, Techne Merlin 245
- Sneakers, Converse Jack Purcell
*Everyday wear*
This is pretty much what we wear daily. Very slight change from the first look but still a totally new look. Button the shirt up, change the sneakers for a pair of Chukka boots and swap the sunglasses for a metal frame...its that easy!!

- Tee, North Shop Pocket Tee
- Oxford, Taylor Stitch Everyday Oxford
- Jeans, Imogene+Willie Barton
- Watch, Techne Merlin 245
- Boots, Red Wing Heritage Classic Chukka 3137
*Fit for the Office*
Lose the tee and tuck the in the shirt. Grab a nice belt and a pair of oxford shoes and you are ready to walk into the office.
- Oxford, Taylor Stitch Everyday Oxford
- Jeans, Imogene+Willie Barton
- Watch, Techne Merlin 245
-Belt, Apolis Hoofpick Belt

Soon the weather will cool off and your oxford becomes a great layering piece. We love it paired with a vintage military jacket and a navy watch cap. A little reminiscent of the post Vietnam style.

A Generation That Will Never Be Repeated

August 14, 2015

We all revere the heroic men of the Second World War. They stood up for what they believed in and were not afraid to take action to fight for their beliefs. Tough and strong, they did what they said and said what they meant.
Plain and simple, they were the brave ones.
Edward Cunningham was strong in every sense of the word. He was not afraid of anything, and not in an arrogant way but in a matter of fact kind of way. When you come from a generation that faced the Great Depression and then survive 25 missions of bombing German submarines — I suppose little rattles you.

Having a man like that in your life certainly is impactful. It changes your outlook on life. Impressing an older sensibility gained from years of listening to stories and looking at the photos of how it once was.

North Menswear speaks loudly to Edward Cunningham's influence. If you really look and break down the products we select, it's what our grandfathers wore. Selvedge denim. Chambray shirts. Pocket tees. Boots. We could go on.

It's not about trends but timeless apparel that meets function. These items have stood the test of time for a reason and we can thank our grandfathers for that.

Outerknown is Here

July 28, 2015

Founded by 11-Time World Champion surfer, Kelly Slater, Outerknown is a West Coast menswear brand established from an understated approach to design and an overstated approach to quality, material, and consciousness.
The concept aims to blend style, function and sustainability with the intent to protect natural resources and inspire change within the men’s fashion and apparel industry. Sustainability is not a bonus; it’s the way we should do business today.
Kelly Slater is almost a supernatural figure. His dominance of the World Tour has been earth shattering and he only seems to get better with age. All of us respect him greatly for his athleticism. Now, we have a new respect for the way he has decided to produce his new clothing line.

As surfers, we have an intimate relationship with our natural world. The ocean is our second home and we are constantly in tune with the weather, the tides, and the swell patterns. When you are so positively influenced by your environment, you want to take care of it. Slater is doing this. He has intentional created a clothing line that focuses on sustainability hopefully paving a path for men's fashion. We love the direction Outerknown is headed and are proud to stock their incredible product

North x Almond Surfboard Collab

July 20, 2015

Almond Surfboards is one of those brands that evoke an emotional experience. From their fine surfing boards to their apparel, Almond encompasses classic California cool.

It’s been a complete honor to work with Almond over the past several months to create our collaboration. The two boards were the outcome of a couple great conversations on our shared love of surfboards and surf history.
Few can argue that Wayne Lynch was a pinnacle part of surf history. It was an easy choice to look to Wayne for inspiration for board one of the collab.

The Evo Egg – A wide point aft of center single fin, loosely based on what Lynch made in 1968. The board known as the Involvement Board, was shaped in hopes that it could surf as Wayne dreamt.

For our second collab board, we looked to another pinnacle figure, Mark Richards.

The Rocket Fish – A winged swallow tail that draws inspiration from 1977 when Richards shaped a twin fin surfboard that became ground breaking. The speed and maneuverability of his shape was his secret weapon, which led him to 4 World Titles.

Both boards were shaped and glassed right here in California by Almond Surfboards. The beauty and immense quality speaks loudly as you can very well imagine and expect from these surfer craftsman. The boards have a unique fabric inlay which has the aesthetic of our shop. The western print was an intentional choice, there’s a cowboy in all of us searching for complete freedom. As surfers, we get to experience that freedom every time we enter the water.

We hope you enjoy what we’ve created together.
